Production
Interests in proven, producing leases, with under-developed drill sites on First Nations lands.
CREEnergy is a majority First Nations owned and operated, AER-licensed energy company in Northern Alberta. We produce, upgrade, move and trade crude. We also work with First Nations communities to build value-added processing on their lands.
David Calahãsen founded CREEnergy in 2007 because First Nations bands needed leadership of their own to manage their resource base. Today CREEnergy is an Alberta corporation, majority owned and operated by First Nations individuals in Western Canada, and AER-licensed. We work with Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) on the acquisition and license transfer of wells on First Nations lands.
We see the resource as our communities always have: a gift from the Creator, to be developed with care for the people who live on the land.
CREEnergy exists to bring leadership and understanding to our associate bands, to develop our own resources on our own land, and to build outcomes that benefit our people and our partners.
Access built on partnership, a margin earned on quality, and returns that keep opportunity close to the community. Canadian policy also increasingly encourages Indigenous economic participation, and CREEnergy operates within that shift.
First Nations lands hold significant under-developed oil and gas. CREEnergy develops it in partnership with the bands, and has built relationships with First Nations across Western Canada over more than twenty years. Relationships like these take years to build.
We focus on interests in proven, producing leases with identified upside in under-developed sites, rather than exploration.
The business takes in crude, cleans it to pipeline specification and sells it on. Management believes this margin is less tied to the price of oil than production alone. Supporting detail is available in the data room.
Beyond production and trading, CREEnergy plans small-scale refining. This kind of value-added processing would keep more of the margin, and more of the jobs, at home.
CREEnergy works each stage from the well to the market. Doing this in house helps keep quality and safety consistent and reduces handoffs between companies.

CREEnergy plans to add small-scale refining on First Nations land, designed to meet applicable emissions requirements. Moving from raw extraction to value-added processing would capture more margin and create skilled jobs close to home.
CREEnergy is majority owned and operated by First Nations individuals and built so that opportunity stays close to the First Nations communities it works with, through jobs, training and partnership on the land.

Jobs
Production, upgrading, transport and planned refining all create work, training and skills in the community.

Benefit
CREEnergy aims to return revenue and opportunity to the communities it partners with.

Partnership
Where agreements provide for it, revenue sharing with partner bands aligns interests and supports long-term stability on reserve lands.
